As Team Hawk crested the mountain that overlooked the idyllic village of Konoha, Suigetsu paused with confusion. Sasuke, who was for some reason trailing far behind his companions (moving at the pace of a reluctant snail), frowned slightly.

"What is it?" he asked.

Team Hawk had been waiting for this moment - the moment when they would utterly destroy Konoha - for months. Sasuke had carefully plotted on gaining the power of the Eight-Tail for that very purpose, and it had taken them three tries to remove the bijuu from Killerbee. Sasuke wasn't going to tolerate anything getting in his way now.

"Are you sure this is it?" Suigetsu called back over his shoulder.

Karin wondered if he was joking, but surely even that bastard wouldn't be stupid enough to mess with Sasuke on eve of his great revenge. Sasuke couldn't be bothered to rush, it would interfere with his majestic dignity, but Karin hastened her steps, prepared to smack Suigetsu for his impudence.

Then she looked out at where Konoha should have been, and gasped.

"Karin?" Juugo said, looking at her in concern as he came to her side. Then he froze, his careful stillness concealing far better than the swearing Suigetsu was indulging in that something was wrong. "Oh," he said faintly, instead.

Karin looked at her illustrious leader with concern. Sasuke, observant by nature, wasn't going to miss their reaction, even though he was still a quarter-mile back. For one brief moment, the crazy idea of trying to distract him crossed her mind, but Sasuke wasn't stupid enough to be distracted.

So she stood, feeling like a heavy hammer was about to fall on their heads. Sasuke didn't appreciate anyone's work but his own; he certainly wasn't going to approve of this.

The three members of Team Hawk waited as their leader finally met them, turning so they could watch his face. Sasuke blinked as he stared down into the ruins of what had once been the proud hidden village of Konoha.

A village which had been pounded flatter than a pancake.

Karin knew that there must have been some S-ranked enemies involved to destroy the formerly mighty village. And since the pool of S-ranked nin capable of this kind of annihilation wasn't big, well... it was unlikely Team Hawk was going to be maintaining its Akatsuki association much longer.

Assuming they survived whatever Sasuke did upon seeing that they were late to the "destroy Konoha" party.

They all held their breath, waiting to see what Sasuke would think. The silence stretched out, growing thinner and thinner, and finally Suigetsu couldn't take it anymore.

"Less work for us?" Suigetsu suggested lamely.

The glare Sasuke sent him in return was as deadly as Manda's bite. Slowly Sasuke raised his hands to form a seal, and Karin braced herself to be prepared for Sasuke's powerful destructive jutsu. Maybe he meant to flame the ruins to ashes, destroying everything that had ever been in his native village.

"Kai!"

They blinked as Sasuke engaged a seal to break a genjutsu - to no effect.

"Doesn't the Sharingan enable him to see through genjutsu?" Suigetsu wondered.

Karin nodded wordlessly, unable to look away from where her leader was having a subtle, though spectacular, mental breakdown.

"Kai! Kai! KAI!"
