This is a beautiful piece, the kind that lulls you into rhythm and you can't stop reading because it's so mesmerizing. I loved the witch character, and Haku is wonderful here, proud, arrogant, and still naive. He is childish in his pride, and you can definitely see parts of that from the anime itself, though I think at that point he's learned his lesson, and is a lot softer there.

Overall, this is the kind of history I crave to read. There's definitely a sense of folk tales and campfire to it, which I like in this fic. All in all, wonderful.

Thank you (from both of us, I'm sure, as soon as I drag Muri out of her box...)

I'm glad you liked the fairytale nature of the story, since that's what we were going for.

...did you recognize who the witch was?

I thought Zeniba when I read it, but then felt more unsure. It could also be someone I'd never heard of before, haha.

XD And the way she knew so much about Haku, as well as the sadness she displayed when she told Chihiro that Haku was dying, as if she'd known that the dragon had chosen his doom all along. And knowing about Chihiro already. The more I think about it, the more this fic fits really, really well.

*g* Yeah, we were going for the back story - especially since Zeniba is SLIGHTLY hostile to Haku on meeting him in Yubaba's home... and then totally kind afterwards. Creating a history between the two makes sense.
