Author’s Notes: This is taking much longer than I want it to (I haven’t been able to use the computer for very long) and I apologize. I’ll try not to take longer in updating. ^^ This time, we have ChangMin’s point of view of how things have unfolded. And yes, the other three now have a bigger part to play in here.

Disclaimers: None of the Dong Bang Shin Ki boys are mine no matter how much I wish they would be. The events below are purely a figment of my over-active imagination. The plot is mine.

Pedestrian Crossings

02 : And then he comes along.

In your own opinion, he radiates like the morning sun and you can’t help but be the sunflower, following his every movement. He walks as if he doesn’t know and perhaps he doesn’t.

But you do.

Perhaps it is one of the reasons why you can’t seem to stand being beside him. You hate attracting much attention to yourself and with him, that is all that happens. Everyone notices him, everyone waves at him and smiles at him. He doesn’t smile at most of them-just a polite nod or small bow-but they don’t really mind.

JunSu waves his hand in front of your face-ChangMin? You seem distracted.

You smile and shake your head-Just thinking, JunSu hyung. He scrutinizes you for a second or so before shrugging. You know JunSu is right and that he knows he is but you can’t confirm that, yes, you are distracted and that your mind is somewhere else.

Or. With someone else.

**

ChangMin?

Hyung, I need to go.

**

Most of the lights in the building are closed and you think, perhaps you are wrong. He couldn’t possibly be inside SM Entertainment at this hour; the classes and training sessions have all finished hours ago.

But something tells you that he is here.

You trudge along the corridors, using the stairs to get up the floors. You can’t afford to use the elevators and skip any corner of any floor. There might be something, anything, that will indicate where he is.

Wait.

You turn right; the piano room is just a floor above where you are. There is no assurance that he is the one playing; you know at least a dozen other SM artists who can play the piano that well. But your feet is taking you there faster than you think is allowed in the halls of SM Entertainment.

And your feet grin at you with that I-told-you-so grin that you hate so much because he is there. JaeJoong is there, playing the piano with his eyes closed.

You enter the room as quietly as you can, careful not to disturb him. He doesn’t notice you until you sit on that space beside him-ChangMin, he exclaims-and his fingers stop playing. He looks at you, waiting for something, perhaps an explanation on how you found him here, but you just look back at him and start playing.

And he stares at you, eyes wide. There’s a question in his eyes-You know the song?

You continue playing. Of course you know the song.

Polaris.

The song you sang at the audition.

The song that paved a way for you to meet him.

**

Sunglasses. He tells you to wear sunglasses after you tell him the reason why you have been distancing yourself from him. He tells you that simple and stupid suggestion of wearing a pair of sunglasses after you’ve been so serious about it.

You roll your eyes. Sometimes, JaeJoong is just too weird.

But, you think, it is worth all the peculiar sidelong glances at you as you walk through the corridors of SM Entertainment. Your classmates-are they still called classmates here, you briefly wonder-are raising their eyebrows yet they are but a blur of faces right now.

JaeJoong approaches you with the brightest smile you have seen him give you-Brat.

And you grin-Your fault, hyung.

**

And then just when you’ve balanced everything-JunSu on Wednesdays and Fridays, JaeJoong on all the other free days-he arrives with the confidence the size of India.

JunSu introduces him to all of you in one of those rare times that even YunHo is around. The latter welcomes him with the same enthusiasm you remember him giving you when you first met him years ago. The newcomer shakes his hand and you almost laugh when he speaks in broken and careful Korean.

But all this amusement stops when JaeJoong arrives unusually late, explaining that he’s been held back by the voice instructor. JunSu turns to him and before he can even introduce his new friend, said new friend extends a hand and does the introduction himself.

YooChun. Nice to meet you.

You watch JaeJoong blink-a little taken aback, perhaps?-before he shakes YooChun’s hand and introduces himself. YooChun shakes it, squeezes it tight and smiles a little too brightly for your eyes. Or JaeJoong’s eyes. Whichever.

The point is, JaeJoong smiles at him the way he smiles only for you. And you like exclusivity.

Min?-He asks when you suddenly put a hand around his waist. You lock gazes with him-never mind that his is questioning you for your sudden possessiveness-and say nothing. He smiles at you and releases his hand from YooChun’s, something that makes you happy.

But what makes you ecstatic is that JaeJoong intertwines his fingers with the ones holding his waist.

And you can’t help but smirk-who cares if you are being possessive, weird and ill-mannered-at YooChun’s fallen smile. JaeJoong is yours and no one makes a move on him aside from you.

Exclusively yours.

**

Which is, of course, only your opinion.

JaeJoong isn’t yours. JaeJoong is no one’s and that finally sinks in through a cruel twist of fate. Because the next thing you know, he is always seen with YooChun.

They have become an inseparable pair, even more than YooChun and JunSu are. They seem to understand each other-the little looks they have for each other that makes one of them laugh, a testament to this. You think it is because they are both a little too weird and a little too musically inclined. You hate to think it is something else.

ChangMin?-JaeJoong tugs on your shirt-Have you become me all of a sudden?

You can see that boyish grin playing on his lips, teasing you. It makes you smile back and tug his shirt the way he has just tugged yours. You love how JaeJoong forgets he is older than you by two years.

He’s been hanging around you for far too long, I’d say.

You roll your eyes as JaeJoong turns around to slap YooChun’s arm repeatedly-You’re saying it as if hanging out with me is bad! And you watch this, unable to keep that smile from your lips.

It’s been like this for quite some time, you observe; the two of you in a constant tug of war for JaeJoong’s undivided attention. YooChun drags JaeJoong off to the nearest karaoke in town while you try to shift his attention to more important things-that, of course, being food. But the funniest thing about this tug of war is that, you find yourself liking YooChun’s company.

Perhaps, you think as JaeJoong pouts and demands that you defend him from the evil YooChun, exclusivity can mean that he belongs to both of you.

**

Yet, that doesn’t mean that the tug-of-war has ended in a draw.

The competition is still there, alive and healthy. As soon as the training ends, it is a race to see who gets to JaeJoong first. Whoever does, gets to be in control; karaoke before barbeque or vice versa.

But today is different.

Before either of you could reach JaeJoong, someone calls him from outside the room. You watch JaeJoong’s smile widen; he invites the other in, saying that it’s rather surprising to see the other here.

YunHo.

He laughs it off, JaeJoong’s comment, and invites him out to eat. JaeJoong raises an eyebrow-What has gotten into you, inviting me out to eat all of a sudden? YunHo shrugs and puts an arm around JaeJoong’s shoulders-I’ve been neglecting my best friend lately and I want to make up for it.

But aren’t you supposed to go out with JunSu today?

Nah. I’m all yours today, BooJae.

You watch JaeJoong shake his head, the smile on his face never slipping away. He tells YunHo that he’d better have enough money to treat him somewhere nice or else. YunHo laughs again-Of course, you fool-and ushers JaeJoong out of the room.

And in that split second before they disappear from your sight, YunHo glances back at you and YooChun.

A look that says he has won.

**

Hey.

You almost jump at the sound JunSu’s voice-Hyung! And it is only then when you realize how silent it has been inside your head, how devoid of anything else you have been since JaeJoong went out with YunHo. Since YunHo left you with that look.

YooChun looks at JunSu from head to toe-You look like you’ve just been dumped.

JunSu shrugs and looks away. You look at him closer, analyzing the way he stands. His shoulders are slumping a little, his eyes a little downcast. The usual smile on his face is nowhere to be seen. He shrugs and you don’t know if he is asking you not to worry or he is telling you that it isn’t true.

So do both of you, he says.

He is confirming it.

**

And that night, a thought passes your head as you bid both YooChun and JunSu goodnight.

Perhaps, you have been competing with the wrong person all along.
