I don't resort to this myself all the time, but I find watching or reading your favorite movies, TV shows or books effectively gets me out of writer's block, at least for a little while. The people at Pixar, whenever they encounter story problems, just watch a Studio Ghibi film, usually one of Miyasaki's, and they find themselves on a roll afterwards, I've heard.
Of course, nothing beats just bloody doing it. It's not like you have to get it right the first time, fanfiction or original (especially the latter). A lack of inspiration can also be a problem, but I find that can be worked around if you know how.
How satisfied is Groudo with what he does? Usually quite so. It takes me quite a while to grow disappointed of fanfiction I wrote to a notable extreme compared to my opinion of the fic in question when I first wrote it. I can't reread my first fic because it was so badly written (well, not THAT bad, but as a novelization it could have been a lot better) but I can reread everything else, and I do so frequently. For the most part I'm satisfied, especially with most of my Powerpuff Girls work, particularly The Powerpuff Girls Movie 2 I'm still working towards the day when I'll have a library of fics to read from, but that's what I want out of fanfiction by the time I move on from it - to have a sizable stack of stories to be proud of. When doing original projects, mind, I am constantly editing and tweaking away - around this time, the finishing touches are being put to a 2nd rewrite of a screenplay by yours truly, for instance. Still, a fair bunch of my ideas, both fanfiction and original, never make it past the drawing board. As they shouldn't. I find it very hard to avoid being obviously inspired by my favorite films or books, but hell knows I try.
Just go with the flow, Quilly. Just go with the flow.
