I spent Friday and Saturday having a "regression weekend" at pipntook's with astoundedsoul, autumn5, and laserhead. Regression weekend consisted of lots of fangirling, going to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and, most importantly, going to Borders and getting Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (I won a $5 giftcard for knowing that Tonks' first name is Nymphadora! No one else put their hand up right away, unlike the rest of the questions, which surprised me) and then going back to pipntook's and reading the book straight through. I'm happy to say we all managed to read it in one sitting, which wasn't so hard for laserhead and I, since we both finished at about 6 am, but pipntook, astoundedsoul and autumn5 were up for a lot more time, and had to listen to laserhead and I attempt to keep from spoiling the book by screaming (or laughing, crying, giggling, jumping up and down, and doing various other things) while reading about 100 pages ahead of them. :) Sorry, guys. Thank God for laserhead. If I hadn't had someone else to whisper to while reading I would have gone insane. It was a ton of fun, and I'm so glad I got to spend so much time with everyone! I just wish we'd had more time to spend together. Thanks to pipntook for hosting the party!

Half Blood Prince is officially my new favorite Harry Potter book, which is saying something, as Azkaban has had that title for quite a few years now.

That said, it's time for a
I don't quite know what to think about the book, and I really don't know where to begin. There was so much I loved about it, and so much that could have been better, at least from my point of view. But I still loved it, couldn't put it down, and picked it up again for a second read immediately after putting in my contacts the next morning. The relationships are all the ones I like, though I was expecting Ron and Hermione to begin dating, not Harry and Ginny! I would have preferred more description of Harry and Ginny's interaction with each other, from Harry's point of view. We got a lot of "as Harry and Ginny stepped back into the common room..." They couldn't have been snogging that whole time, could they have? Surely they said something? Maybe a description of how Harry feels the relationship is going? I dunno. I'm sure the H/G shippers are going to elaborate in JKR's stead.

Far more importantly, Snape's apparent double-double cross, and Dumbledore's death. Right up until he said Avada Kedavra I believed Dumbledore would survive again. Rationally, I had figured that he wouldn't. But I did want him to survive. I don't know what to believe about Snape, but I'm not sure I can subscribe to pipntook's well thought out suggestion that it was planned, or that Dumbledore asked Snape to do it. I can see it as a possibility, but I'm not going to say that I wholeheartedly believe that's what happened. I don't seem to have as much trouble seeing it as Snape showing his true colors again as other people seem to. Honestly, it doesn't really break my heart that Snape is bad. What I dislike is that another multifaceted, very not black and white character has possibly been revealed as very black. I like grey characters.

I've got about a hundred other things to say, but I don't have the energy to talk about them right now. These are just the big issues, and only some of them at that. More on HPHBP later, I suppose.

We drove home this morning, stopped at the mall nearest campus to get me some food, and were stopped on 60 because this huge parade of motorcycles was crossing the intersection for about 20 minutes. What was that about? It sucked. Then I went to rehersal at Gorton, which lasted for a draining 9 hours of doing basically nothing but putting some finishing touches on the props. I did get a lot of reading done for my thesis, but now I'm completely exhausted. What a waste.
