Fraction Fiascos and Decimal Debacles

I just got my final score for Calculus back and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my best math teacher. No, not any person living or deceased or even the good folks at Texas Instruments, but a computer game. I can't help but wonder if I would have made it this far without a game from my childhood called Number Munchers. Unlike prudish, ( Read more... )

Awesome... you are just awesome. Plain and simple.

And I do, in fact, remeber Number Munchers, far back in the annals of time, way back at Oak Forest Elementary, where I rocked the other students (and teachers) with my knowledge of computers...

Ah, reminisce.

Ok, I will admit Number Munchers was the shit back in the day, but you can't dis Reader Rabbit, he's the man. I remember my dad bringing home our first computer at the tender age of 3 and popping that huge floppy disk in and booting up Reader Rabbit, aka my best friend. With a plethora of games to choose from, I had variety and never got bored, whereas NM was the same comcept with different levels. RR kept it exciting. But still, I like your latest entries, they're like a blast from the past.

I remember playing NM for 45 minutes straight in "computers" at Oak Forest as well. However, since my mom was an elementary school teacher, I would hone my skills after school on the computers in her classroom. I almost always sat comfortably atop the Number Munchers Hall of Fame. Whenever I would finally beat the high score, I would drive the point home by putting names like "Vincent the Great", "Vicente el sabio", and "The Black Muncher" This often infuriated others who might try to topple me, but there really wasn't much they could do about it. I remember taking great pride in this.

Does your mum still have it on the computers in her classroom? If so I think a little visit is in order...

I played Math Blaster when I was a kid. That game was badass, you got to make a little spaceship, and it would fly across the screen in pixelated 386 glory. My brother and I spent so long trying to get the randomly selected pieces to make a really cool spaceship. Once, my brother made it, but I wasn't around, and I was sad because I didn't get to see it.
