Twilight Zone
So Ed's mom (Guila) calls me early Sunday Afternoon sobbing.
"Albert just died" She says. Albert is Ed's Aunt that lives with his mom as she is in poor health.
"Oh no!" I say "What happened?"
::more sobbing::
Guila Says, "She was having trouble breathing and.."
"Is she still there?" I ask
::more sobbing::
Guila Says, "Yes"
"I'll call Ed at work and I'm on my way over" I tell her and hang up the phone. I call Ed and leave him a message that Alberta just died and I think the body is still at his mom's house and I'm on my way other there. I get dressed and try to prepare myself to see a dead body for the first time, other than at funerals, I've never encountered a dead body. I'm frightened and excited; I never really liked Aunt Alberta.
I hurry over to Ed's parents, walk in the door and Alberta is seating at the kitchen table, crying. I was so shocked to see her alive that I didn't say a word. I just stood there in the doorway wasting A/C with a stupid look on my face. Anyone one who knows me knows which stupid look I'm referring too, I use it all the time. Ed's other aunt, Zona, is also sitting at the kitchen table. I'm totally clueless and bewildered, but to afraid to ask what the fuck is going on. Finally Zona breaks the awkward silence and says "Guila is downstairs".
I pass Alberta, taking a real good look at her (yup defiantly alive) and go downstairs to find Guila doing laundry and crying. At this point I assume Guila found Alberta in deep sleep and assumed she was dead, imagine her surprise when her dead sister wakes up..Ah ha! That’s why everyone is crying. It was just a shocking mistake!
So thinking I figured it out I give a little laugh, I hug Guila and say "Did you think she was dead?"
"Yea" Guila says, still crying. "I'm trying to pack. Are you and Ed going to be able to go to the funeral?"
Once more, I'm confused again. And now Guila is confused because I'm looking at her like she is crazy. I wanted to say "But she's not dead! I just checked. She's at the kitchen table drinking coffee and crying. Dead people don't drink coffee or cry" but instead I just say... "ummm huh?"
"Virginia? Ed and Bertlee were close..." blah blah blah...
It all starts to make since. She told me Alberta died, but she meant Bertlee. Bertlee is Ed's other Aunt in Virginia, I didn't like her either. Apparently Guila was so upset and didn't really listen to any of the questions I asked, she just kept replying "yea".
