A Thousand Words

A Thousand Words or getting the best out of a crappy photo.

I'm a sucker for amateur photography. I love looking at photos taken by random people in the street who have no inkling what ISO is and how to adjust it. Focus is just an a phenomena they create unintentionally. Now, I'm not saying all amateur photos are good. Quite the contrary. Most of it is some bloke taking a photo of the ground or the wall. In the art community I belong to, I view at least 200 photos every day. Most are pretty well done due to the exclusiveness of the clubs they're featured in. I've only had a couple photos accepted or invited to be featured. Yes, I'm bragging a bit, even though 3 good photos out of seven thousand (I have more than that) do not necessarily beget bragging rights. Most of my photos are only viewed because I was at the right place at the right time and clicked at the right moment. So let's take the photo below as an example of a bad photo but one people will view because it's sort of decent and, of course, the subject is incredibly handsome...

First of all, this man is one who I love to see in public and fan events because he knows how to work a crowd. He's one of my favorite subjects. When I'm not being jostled by paps or overzealous fans, I get pretty decent photos. This one is one of the mediocre ones. It's completely out of focus, the light is horrible, the zoom has made the pixels visible (original photo is 5000 X 3000). I changed this to black and white instead of taking the photo in black and white 'film.' It probably would have been much clearer in the 'film.' The shadow is too dark; however, I do like what it enhances in his facial expression (a bit contemplative, no?). I can find so much fault in this photo yet... I like it. Only a couple people have this photo or have seen it. I've only put it here since I know it'll either be viewed by a few people or shared around with my fellow lovely fans.  I didn't have the heart to post it with my deviant art account because it's been too long since I attended this event and I'd feel like an arse trying too hard.

Anyway, I can't help but stare. The look Hugh has on his face is intriguing. If I didn't know what he was speaking about, I would have thought it something grave, but not alarming.

I'm done for the night here. Your thoughts?
