Phillies World Series Parade

Nov 03, 2008 16:30

As you may know, the Phillies won the World Series on Wednesday and on Friday we had our celebration parade. Friday morning started off crazy - my train was full of Phillies fans going in and the train filled up five stops early and couldn't take any more passengers. Work was great - we all got off at noon to go watch the parade. Here are some parade pictures that I took from the 5th floor of the parking garage in our building:

Before the parade started - towards 20th & Market

Before the parade started - towards City Hall

About 15 minutes later, towards 20 & Market - the crowds have grown

The start of the parade - all the reporters and cameras were on these buses.

 Some motorcycle police

The Budweiser horses - I guess this was a condition of sponsoring the Phillies.
The first flatbead truck of players with the Phillie Phantic mascot doing his crazy gesturing and dancing.

It's hard to see, you can zoom in, but in the middle is the Mayor, Michael Nutter, holding up the World Series trophy. I was a bit miffed at that - what did that man have to do with them winning?

More players & family members and lots of confetti!

Look at all the people down to city hall - and confetti!

Confetti.

Another truck of people

Another truck of people with the World Series 2008 pennant they raised in Citizens Bank Park.

Another truck - this one thanking the Fans.

Last truck of the parade

Parade continues down towards City Hall.

After the parade passes, the fans are allowed to start following behind it and pour into the street.

Even more fans walking down the street. Accounts afterwards estimated the total amount of people out to about 2million.

We all went back to the office after the parade passed us, but around 3pm I went to the bar with some coworkers to watch the ceremonies from there with a couple beers.

Around 5pm I decided to try and head home. I heard that suburban station at 15th & Market was packed, so I walked up to 30th street station to try and get around the crowd. When I got close to the ramp up to regional rail, there were policeman blocking traffic from getting through. I couldn't get close enough to ask what was going on, but the people around me were saying that they were told there was a 20minute wait to get up to the platforms, and then a 2 hour wait to get on a train. I heard someone else say there was a 3 hour wait to get on the subway, so they had taken a bus here. I wasn't in the mood to wait for 4 hours to get home, so I looked up bus routes on my phone and caught a bus out to the Gulph Mills station right past conshohocken and then Doug picked me up so I wouldn't have to wait for the next bus to take me the last couple miles. Craziness. But hey, what can SEPTA do? They only have so many trains.

Fun times though. Hope you like the pictures!
