I believe I deserve this scholarship due to my poor financial circumstances and continuous efforts to return to school. I am currently unemployed and will probably have to wait until baby gets here at the beginning of September before I am able to find employment. I have no savings and no family support. I was accepted to Bucks County Community College too late to apply for most scholarships. Also, due to some miscommunication over BCCC's definition of "sponsored by a community college," my tuition bill is more than twice what I had anticipated. What seemed like a generous $226 from PHEAA will barely put a dent in the $1,500+ I now owe in tuition and materials.
I did poorly my freshman year of college in 2005-06. I had to withdraw early the next year for personal reasons. I was only supposed to be gone for a semester, but abusive relationships and more personal problems distracted me from my education. In 2008 I finally began to look into returning to school at Penn State. I had to enroll as a non-degree student and score a B or better in two classes before being admitted as a degree student. Unfortunately non-degree students do not receive any kind of government aid. Disappointed and frustrated, I had to withdraw from PSU due to lack of funding shortly after the beginning of the semester. However, I promised myself that I would somehow find a way to go back to school this year. It was hard to find a college that would accept me as a degree student with my GPA as low as it is, but I was welcomed at Bucks County Community College for the fall '10 semester as a part-time student.
I would like for nothing more than to fulfill my promise to myself and return to school. I believe that if I don't do it now with the baby on the way, I may never have the Any funds you could offer would be very much appreciated and would help me accomplish something that I have been trying to do for several years.
