independence day in battery park!
what a beautiful day and amazing free matador concert featuring Laura Cantrell, Stephen Malkmus (from pavement), and Yo La Tengo.
rachel and i split up for a the beginning of malkmus' set because i was so excited see him , that i wanted to push up to to the front to take pictures. i'm not the type of person to request a song by yelling through the crowd, and honestly i find it annoying. well, i just got malkmus' new album "face the truth" , and i fell in love with the first track "pencil rot". so, i don't know what possessed me yell it out, but i did. the bassist immediately looks at me and says "how did you know?" (apparently it was next on the set list). stephen said "good idea!" then proceeded to say "psyche.....i hate that word, especially when referring to music" then he played it.
rachel and I met up later and she knew it was me, firstly because she knows my voice (obviously), and secondly i had been talking about wanting him to play that song all day. it was really funny. anyway, enough of the long stupid story. here are a few pictures from the show.
