Australia First Party reforms Let me preface this by saying: If I were to place myself anywhere on the political scale it would be middle left.
I may flirt with the right, and I will admit sometimes, somewhere there is some sense in right-wing politics, hence, the middle and yes, conservative left, much to my socialist mother's dismay. But even with my open-minded, fence sitting attitude, this, the existence of this, Australia First Party and others like it, offends me.
If you read the article you will find that the Australia First Party is in favour of an anti-immigration policy. Can I understand why such a policy would be attractive? Yes, I can because as an Australian I can see that we have population and infrastructure problems in every state, in the cities and in the rural regions. Do I think that this so called anti-immigration policy would be any solution to these problems? No, because the problem isn't immigrants, it's numbers which as a descendant of two convicts who were transported, why yes, I do contribute that problem.
Do I entertain the notion, that perhaps, when Mr Salaem and other members of the Australia First Party are dreaming up their anti-immigration policy that they'll restrict immigration of all migrants? Including that large portion that are white, English speaking and come from New Zealand, Britain and North America?
No, no I don't. I know that when he says anti-immigration he means to restrict immigration of migrants that may come from SE Asia, the Middle East, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe. And while, I may on occasion take issue to walking down the street and not hearing English being spoken or finding myself being the only Caucasian in a mass of people who are all of Asian descent, an anti-immigration policy is Not Cool with me. It is utter, utter rubbish, and to think that is this 'globalised' world that we can remain this closed-minded and insular and survive and be respected internationally? I do have to wonder what it is that makes people think like that.
The problem isn't the type of people that make up this country and it's not even really with the number of people...it's with all industry and business and how they're being managed. This idea that 'it's the migrants taking all our jobs!' That's just absurd paranoia.
