TVU Challenge 707 - In Memorium

Feb 10, 2015 01:24

Challenge:
Do you have a favorite TV character that has passed on? We all do. Those moments - usually during sweeps or contract negotiations - when you feel like you've been punched in the gut, watching your favorite show. Suddenly, your favorite character is killed? Ack! The feels! In this challenge, you can do a memorial image or a meta/fic about TV characters who have died. This is your chance to express your feelings about the loss in either art or words.

I wrung myself out with the last In Memorium and haven't really had anything that slayed me recently.  But here is a selection of r.i.p.s from The Walking Dead (surprise! & POSSIBLE SPOILER!!!!), Broadchurch, Longmire and Forever.

1. Danny Latimer (Broadchurch).

2. Tyreese (The Walking Dead)

3. Beth Greene (The Walking Dead)

4.Martha Longmire (Longmire) - 407 word drabble.  Vic Moretti and Walt Longmire

“Where are you going?”

“I’ve got something to take care of”.

“We’re supposed to be at Henry’s party. You can’t go off, Walt. We need to be there”.

When Vic got no answer except a stony stare straight over the steering wheel, she slid out of her truck and went to lean in his window.  When he hadn’t answered his phone, Vic had come looking for him and here they were side by side in his long driveway headed in opposite directions.

“What is it?”, Vic asked as she leaned in closer, confused by his obvious lack of joy at Henry’s exoneration. “And why are you all covered in dust?”, she probed.  Walt was pretty particular about the condition of his hat and it was a shade or three lighter than usual.  His blue eyes were almost black with a look she’d never seen.

Suddenly his shoulders relaxed, he blinked and looked straight into her eyes.
“It’s ashes”.

Vic could feel the colour draining out of her face.  Oh, God.  She was afraid she’d said it out loud.  She knew he had Martha’s ashes in the tea chest in the kitchen.  She’d found them as she prowled on the night she’d stayed over on his couch. What had moved him to spread her ashes today?   Martha’s death had knocked Walt to his knees.  Although Vic was getting good at reading him, responding to this could be a challenge. He’d just admitted two days ago that he wanted her to stay. She didn’t want to reply in a way that might lack sensitivity and ruin this new aspect of their relationship.

Martha and Walt had been together since high school, had married young and had Cady when they were twenty.  Walt had loved her without fail and still suffered her loss.  Vic would listen for moments when he would let something slip about Martha or his marriage.  The more she learned about Walt the more she respected him. His loyalty was just one of his traits she found deeply touching.
So now, she looked right back at him, tilting her head to the side and smiling slightly, trying to combine the right amount of lightness with an understanding of the profound significance of his admission.

“She wouldn’t like you to go out looking like that. Let’s get you cleaned up and over to The Red Pony.  This is Martha’s celebration, too.  She’d be so proud of you, Walt.”

5. Abigail Morgan (Forever)
