We gave up cable a little over two months ago, my protest against the sapping effect of television on the American psyche. We no longer know how to entertain ourselves without the flashing bright lights of vapid broadcast. I figured B would fight the hardest against this, as she had a vast number of shows....Lost, Grey's Anatomy, etc. Ironically, she has taken the change most in stride. All of her shows were available on the interent. Ironically, I am the one struggling with things. I always had the TV on in the background, but I rarely tuly watched anything actively. Football season, maybe a little hockey, CBS Sunday Morning were my only regular shows. Well, that and RFD-TV. And I am the one who has been going through withdrawal. I can't tell you how many times I've almost run out to buy rabbit ears, or even wanted to call Mediacom and get cable back. I think that I'm finally over the hump, though. I can listen to sports on the radio, although it's not quite as good, especially if your particular driver is not in first place, and UNI now has live online TV broadcasts of their football games on the internet. I'll struggle through, and also realize that I have a whole heck of a lot of reading to do in the coming months. But the corner has only been turned recently, and I can still hear the siren song of television calling me back.
