Today's Mystery Birthday

Jun 13, 2013 19:46

I've been wanting for weeks to buy a really cheap cake mix. Unfortunately, it kept either exceeding our budget or slipping my mind when we were at the store. But two weeks ago I finally remembered to grab a Loretta's confetti cake mix1 and a can of Pampa chocolate frosting2. Today, I finally made it.

Problem . . . I didn't see the part about making one layer until I was getting out the pans!

Then I encountered the second problem . . . whose birthday is it?

I narrowed it down to Ally Sheedy, William Butler Yeats, Janet Pilgrim4, or Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.

I ruled out Yeats for two reasons. First, he's famous enough the kids aren't going to learn anything by being told who he is5. Second, he's dead.

Ally Sheedy was next to go. As infatuated with her as I was in 1985, and as much as I'd like to see Life During Wartime, she's not terribly relevant to my life at the moment.

That left Janet Pilgrim and the Olsens. If I was judging based on admiration, I would have decided differently. If it had been a better cake, probably made from scratch, I would have decided differently. And then there was the clincher:

Me: I'd say it should go to the Olsens because they could really use some cake.
sosoclever: Especially the one of them.
Me: But I don't want to offend the pro ana types.
sosoclever: Why not?

So this is Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's birthday cake. Don't mind the unassembled lasagne in the background.

1$13
2$1
3Of course, last week sosoclever found one for 99¢!
4Possibly NSFW . . . in a 1955 kind of way!
5I hope not, at least.
