This barely counts as making something and was never intended for that purpose. Here's the item, story follows.
So I got these nice knives for Christmas a few years back. Along with the knives, my nephew had ordered a really nice in-drawer knife block, but it was on backorder. After our family Christmas was over, I asked my father if he had some scrap wood so I could make a temporary knife block, just to keep the knives from rattling around against others in the kitchen drawer. I was asking for a random chunk of 2x4. My father being who he is said, Well, I've got a chunk of cherry wood I was going to use for kindling. Why yes. Yes, I will take that.
There really isn't much to say about the construction, because it took no skill and little thought. The chunk planed down to a basic shape, two slots cut on the table saw for the blades, the space for the handles drilled in the corners and cut with a jigsaw, and after that the roughness and corners sanded off. I've oiled it several times with flaxseed oil, since that's what linseed oil is called when it's food-safe, and that's it. It's now nicer than what I hoped to get, and it took a chunk of scrap and maybe twenty minutes. Bigger:
