Brainstorm time: How might we invent or figure out solutions to make people's lives easier?
Reason/Background/Story etc: You all may or may not know that I want to be a successful entrepreneur one day. While bioplastics is still something that I consider extremely important, let's face it, the research is still in its infancy, and I'm not going to wait around for it. So, in the meantime, I want to think of other ideas that I can latch on to.
Where You Come In: I've learned a lot from Stanford's Design School (aka a mini IDEO…the mega design company that was founded at Stanford) classes. I don't want to design for myself…I want to design for you, to address your needs and wants that people have not touched on before. I'm learning how to design with empathy and human values in mind (which I consider something really important).
What You Can Do: Like the statement up top, I want you guys to tell me things that you wish were invented or solutions found to make your lives (or people you know) easier. The ideas can be out of this world (literally) or something really practical and, "DUHH!!! Why didn't anyone else already think about this????? It's SOOOO OBVIOUS!!!"
Rules: Yes, with everything, there are rules, but they are here to help everyone. Each rule is explained below the image.
1. Defer Judgment: no idea is ever stupid, retarded, impossible, or non-feasible. Everything goes! In brainstorm sessions, I always usually come up with robots or aliens beaming up something to us with their super powers. Legit, no idea is crazy.
2. Encourage Wild Ideas: that said…because we don't judge, this allows people to be crazy and come up with ideas that other people can build on.
3. Build on the Ideas of Others: Even if you mention space monkeys, someone may be able to come up with an idea that was built on your space monkeys. It's very collaborative brainstorming.
(4 (brainstorm topic), 5 (not really applicable), and 6 (this might be hard) is self-explanatory)
7. Go for quantity: NOT QUALITY. Here, more is better because it gives people like me that much more to work with later. Usually, when I'm brainstorming for class, our group of 4 or 5 can come up with about 60-70 ideas and solutions for the topic we are trying to tackle in about 20-25 minutes (like: how might we help the Stanford dining hall reduce food waste?). So, please, don't hold back ♥
Examples:
noted said that it would be cool if there was ice that never melted (OMG GENIUS). I came up with some sort of airport security bag that lets me streamline through security without holding up the line. I'm thinking of more, but these are just some ideas that came off the top of our heads.
So, will you help me out? You never know, you might see your solution out there someday :D I really want to help, and be the best social entrepreneur I can. But, I need you guys. I can't do this alone ♥
I've come to embrace that amazing ideas don't stem from a single person hoarding their ideas for themselves thinking they are brilliant. It comes from collaboration and repetitive ideation to make that initial idea even that much more kick ass.
Thanks guys ♥ You have no idea how much this helps me.
