I have been thinking about blessings recently, given my current situation. Within the last 6mo I have been married, became an instant dad, have another child on the way, have gone through changes at work, and have been house hunting. In other words, I've had about all the blessings I can handle.
Now, don't get me wrong. I enjoy this point in my life. I have been abundantly blessed. But receiving all of these blessings makes me realize some things. Here are my observations:
I used to pray for blessings often, but I think I finally realized why God does not throw huge blessings our way on a regular basis; we could not handle it! There is an adjustment to be made for those blessings. We don't already have room for them in our lives, so a stretching needs to take place, either before, during, or after a blessing arrives (usually all three). That stretching can be pretty painful, to the point that it feels as if something might burst. My pregnant wife can probably relate, as her body makes the adjustments to the baby growing constantly larger inside of her. It is good, but it is not comfortable.
So what have I learned in all of this? Rejoice in the current blessings I have, be content in any circumstance whether blessed or not-so-blessed as I may define it, and be careful about praying for blessings, because God may grant the request.
