Happy 16th Birthday, Evan!
I am now hopefully finished with scholarship essays. The last one I put a lot of work into. It was about the Holocaust, and it really made me think. There is so much we can learn from the past, so many mistakes we could avoid if only we took the time to dig into the substance of history. Perhaps the most important lesson we can learn from history is to love one another with the love that only God gives, to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, to love our neighbors as ourselves. How much the world would change for the better if only we learned to apply it to our lives!
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor' and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?"
---Matthew 5:43-46
Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
---Matthew 22:37-40
