I’m just back from the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. I’m going to share my impressions including spoilers under the cut, so don’t look if you don’t want to know!
I thought that this one stayed pretty faithful to canon, give or take a few scenes. Rupert was indeed awesome, and I found that the scenes without him tended to drag out a bit.
The Horcrux kiss was obviously heavily CGI, so I wasn't too bothered by it either, and the tent scene was goofy/non-romantic because of the way Dan was dancing (or at least trying to ;)). What bothered me more were the interviews that the cast gave about the tent dance - especially Dan's interpretation of what it was supposed to represent. *sigh* Maybe he was misquoted?
I'm with you on the Map, and particularly the lack of bonding time between Harry and Ron after the locket was destroyed. Why was that left out?
Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting part 2. Is it too much to hope that they'll surprise us and give us the H/G kiss we've been waiting for all this time?
You'll have to send me the link to the bit about Dan's interpretation of the dance. I've somehow missed that.
I didn't feel like there were any particularly anti-cannon scenes in this one. Like the one from HBP in the Three Broomsticks where Harry is sucking up to Slughorn, not really noticing Ginny and Dean snogging at all and Ron being horrified that Hermione might be interest in him.
I'll be brave! PM me. The only thing I've seen is him talking about the brother sister relationship coming through. They're probably so knackered during these press junkets at some point they have no idea what is coming out of their mouths.
