We went up to Michigan today to see my Granny, aunt and uncle.

My poor little Granny has severe dementia, which meant that she didn't know who we were.  When we saw her a couple of years ago, she didn't remember that my sister and I were grown up, but this time she didn't know us at all.  She's fairly coherent, for what it's worth.  She talked about my aunts and uncles as though they were teenagers, thought that my 2 youngest aunts lived in the apartment complex behind the nursing home, and kept saying that no one ever came to visit her.  (We know different.)

She did say that she liked it at the nursing home and that she felt much better than she did "at that other place" (i.e. my aunt/uncle's house).  They've taken her off almost all the Alzheimer's meds that she was on, just giving her a bit of Paxil and her insulin.  I'm so glad my aunt and uncle finally decided to take her there.  Everyone is happier.

The nursing home was really nice - no pee smell, nice sitting area - and the patients weren't too out of control.  Most of them came over to examine us, but there were no yellers or cussers or violent people, which can be rare on an Alzheimer's unit.  One lady kept carrying around a baby doll and taking all of the things out of the room (she tried to take my uncle's dog, but he managed to divert her).  Nice as it was, though, it was still a nursing home.  *shudder*

All of you nurses/aides/home health people, bless you, 'cause I could not do that for love nor money.  :\

Nice trip all in all.  My sister and I had to laugh at always missing the exit in Toledo and being so used to missing it that you're more familiar with the wrong way that the right.

Tomorrow is Easter, and it will probably be snowing.  Pout.

Hope everyone has a good Easter, even if the weather is unseasonable where you are (maybe only rainpuddle13 is happy about that)!
