DDD: 36 - Log with Lily [Apologising at rounds]

Nov 29, 2011 03:30

James was very glad when the virus was over. He'd had fun with his 'brothers' at the start of it but it had gone downhill fast. First Snape's body and then seeing his own death, it really hadn't been the best week of his life. And it certainly didn't help his relationship with Lily. So on their rounds the following week, James decided to do ( Read more... )

Lily hadn't been sure what to expect when James stopped her before heading into Gryffindor Tower. What he did say caught her completely off-guard. She hadn't been expecting this at all. Had it just been about the virus that had given him three blood brothers or the change in bodies (as disturbing as the latter was), she'd have cut him off early to insist he didn't have a thing to worry about ( ... )

James smiled broadly when she accepted. The time seemed to have stood still while he waited for her answer. He knew it was just the community's doing, she'd said it so often, but he still felt as though he should apologise.

"Thank you." He paused again, trying to think of the best way to ask his suggestion. "I thought maybe we could do to Hogsmeade next weekend. You know...together. As friends. And before you say anything, I'm not asking for a date. It's not like every other weekend we've had for the last five years, I just want to buy you a butterbeer as a friend...." He'll continue to ramble like this until Lily says something. Nervous James is quite a sight to see. He was very glad everyone else was in their houses.

Oh goodness, she wanted to laugh. Nervous James was such a drastic change from his usual, confident self. And he was insisting that it wouldn't be a date, just a trip as friends. Lily stifled a giggle behind the hand not holding the flower.

"Alright, I'll go with you. But on one condition. You let me buy you a butterbeer to make up for some of the things I said during that virus."

James stopped abruptly at the confirmation and stared for a moment. Had she just said yes? Would he really be going to Hogsmeade with Lily Evans?

"Really? You'll go with me?" He had to ask again. This was just unexpected. As much as he had wanted this, he never thought it was actually going to happen!

"I believe that's what I said, yes." She couldn't help but giggle. And that's when movement caught Lily's attention. A student out of bed? Turning her head, she watched as the Fat Lady's friend scurried through portraits, pausing to whisper to some, before continuing on. Tomorrow's topic of gossip already spreading. Lovely. She turned back to James.

"Shall we turn in for the night?"

James chuckled at the painting. "Thanks, Lily." Then he nodded and started back towards the tower.

"We really should. Don't want Filch catching us whether we're Head Boy and Girl or not." That and he wanted to get back to brag to the others.

"Not like we're doing anything wrong, just on our way back to Gryffindor Tower." Still, she started walking again. Lily couldn't help but wonder, despite what James had said, if she had just agreed to go on a date with him. If any of her friends were still awake, she'd ask. If not, it could wait until the morning.

"I know. But it's still Filch." He walked with her, watching the paintings along the way stare due to the Fat Lady's friend's gossip. It didn't bother him though. He was just happy she agree to go with him.

"I suppose you may have a point." She ignored the paintings staring at them. It was like they hadn't seen them walk around together, catching up after rounds.

Before she knew it, they had reached the corridor with the Fat Lady's painting. Violet had made it there first, going by the curious look on the Fat Lady's face when they got closer. Or was it amusement? Maybe both?

"Mooncalf dances." Password given, the portrait swung forward to reveal the common room entrance.

James let Lily go in first, tempted to give the Fat Lady and her friend a talking to, but he didn't. Instead, he walked into the common room and headed towards his dorm.

"Well...goodnight?"

She had been halfway to the girl's dormitory stairs when she turned on the spot. That was one of the most unsure goodnights she had ever heard.

"Did you want to talk more or something?"

"What? No. Er...Goodnight." He smiled and walked into his own dorm room, closing the door and leaning against it. He still needed time to process the fact he would be going to Hogsmeade with Lily Evans!

"Goodnight." After he left, she shook her head and smiled before heading upstairs to her dorm.
