DDD: 34 - Log with Lily and Ferb [Harry's First Quidditch Match AKA The Knut Drops]

James was waiting in the common room. It was empty except for a few first years who he made leave with his awesome Head Boy powers when he realised Ferb was due. Today was Harry's first Quidditch match and his little brother was going to be worldhopping both him and Lily to watch it. He couldn't wait

Lily came running in after breakfast, with only a hurried "I'll be down in a minute!" as she bolted up the stairs to the girl's dormitories. She left her badge on the bedside table and threw a scarf around her neck. She looked herself over once in the mirror, gave herself an approving nod, and headed back down. She smiled at James as she re-entered the common room.

"Ready?"

Ferb checked the time on the machine again. It was nearly time to 'pick up' his brother and the young woman that would also accompany him. Ferb had already figured out just why the two teens had wanted to see Harry's game- but he wasn't going to point anything out quite yet.

At fifteen to the hour he started the machine, watching as the portal opened onto the Gryffindor Common room and waved silently at the two students standing there.

James nodded at Lily just as the portal opened. He gathered up the robes and his wand before holding his hand out to Lily.

"Shall we?" He waved back to his brother and waited for Lily before stepping through into Danville.

She smiled and took his hand, stepping through with him at the same time.

"Hello! Thank you for letting me come along too."

Ferb nodded at them both, shutting the portal down once they were through. He set the world hop machine before looking curiously at the robes in James' hand.

James released Lily's hand once they were through and ruffled his brothers hair. "Lily, Ferb. Ferb, Lily." No one ever said he was good at introductions.

Then he pulled out his wand and tapped Ferb's hair twice turning a similar shade of black as his own. "Don't want you standing out too much. And here, these are first year Gryffindor robes." James grinned. He'd always wanted to see Ferb in robes.

She rolled her eyes, but still smiled. "Pleasure to meet you, Ferb."

As Ferb's hair color changed, she picked up a lock of her own. Bright red, bound to stand out.... Well, if there weren't any other gingers in the crowd, she could change its color at the match.

The robes made him blink but he took them anyways. He'd figured something like this would be needed. Of course he flinched automatically when he felt the magic go over his head.

He gave James a look before pulling down a strand to see it. Oh well. He'd get used to it. The boy looked up at Lily for a moment but he couldn't really answer her question. At least she could use magic.

Ferb shrugged on the first year robes, fixing the crest before staring at it. A lion meant Gryffindor right? Marvelous.

"Sorry, Ferb. But green is abnormal, even by wizard standards." He ruffled the newly coloured hair in his little brotherly way and watched him dress.

"You really do look like my brother now."

Lily got a good look at them, side-by-side, with Ferb's temporary hair color... they did look like they could pass for brothers. She looked them both over with an appraising eye before pulling out her wand and conjuring up matching scarves in Gryffindor red and gold.

"Here, it's bound to be a bit chilly in the stands. Future or not, it's still Scotland in November."

Ferb shook his hair back into place, but there was a smile in his eyes when he looked at Lily. He reached up to catch the scarf. He did have to agree with Lily about the cold though, especially going from summer in America.

"Thank you." Was all he offered, but it was a lot more then most people get on a first meeting. He looked at James before walking a bit awkwardly to the machine. It would take a few minutes to get the hang of walking with robes.

He pointed to them before looking at the portal. Them first and he'd follow behind.

James offered Lily his hand again so they could step through together, whispering in her ear. "Wow, he doesn't usually talk so quickly." He smirked while he adjusted his scarf, thanking her with his eyes.

She looked at him in surprise before whispering back. "Really? I didn't realise he didn't speak that often."

With a satisfied smile directed at both boys, she took James' offered hand and stepped through.

Once they were through the portal he set the timer and remote access before stepping through himself. He waited until the portal shut before nodding and carefully hurrying to catch up to the older teens.

Then he slows down because...this is his first time actually inside Hogwarts.

James giggled at Lily but didn't respond. Ferb was too close now. But then he saw him slowing down and sadly had to drop Lily's hand to check on him. "You okay, Ferb?"

She had barely noticed James letting go, too busy examining where they had ended up. Too busy until James' doting on Ferb called her attention back. Lily edged closer, keeping her voice low enough for only them both to hear her. His reaction reminded her of her own when she first entered the school. ...Could it be?

"Is this your first time at Hogwarts?"
