I really enjoyed the aspects/dynamics of their friendship that you chose to highlight, like, they've been friends for so long that it's easy for both of them and something that jongin can sink into and give himself up to, but at the same time, because taemin is older and ahead on the idol trajectory, jongin is the one who is wistful and always has those half-formed thoughts where he compares himself to taemin almost without meaning to. but then how even though jongin might be oblivious to it, taemin also looks at jongin as a way to measure his own talent and worth and the ways he needs to improve, because while they may be chingu, taemin is far older in idol years. even so, I like how taemin is bright and silly and oblivious and unfailingly himself, can't be anything other than himself, while jongin is sometimes kai and always jongin, and jongin looks to taemin not just as a mirror image but maybe also as a crystal ball that can tell his future.
I love how the vignettes capture the ways they're still children but yet not, as they've been put before audiences as finished products but are, in actuality, still growing into the reality of being those products. taekai project group, all I want, all my hopes and dreams, etc. ♡◡♡ I love how taemin is prose and jongin is poetry and how, because they're really interacting full-on in a professional context for the first time, taemin's perfectionist qualities and his desire to best himself are evident. and how at the same time, jongin doesn't really understand, because, just, they've been friends for so long and know each other in so many ways, but their friendship has always been coloured by competition, by being busy, by long periods of absence and lack of communication, and it doesn't make them any less friends, good friends, best friends, but they do have to relearn how to be friends with one another and renegotiate their friendship in terms of every new context that they encounter and exist in.
really rambling, and I'm not sure if this is a comment about this fic or just about my taekai feelings, in the end, but I really do love this so much! write me more, hehe ♥
You are the best for picking up on everything I was trying to portray - they are such perfect foils for each other and I really feel like Taemin is the person that, to Jongin, both represents his potential and his hopes when looking ahead and, looking back, what he wanted for himself, and at the same time Taemin is the only person he can't really be jealous of, or begrudge, not just because he knows exactly what it took Taemin to get there, but also out of love for him. And Taemin is so endearingly pleased and happy for Jongin, and to have Jongin with him. Even with everything in flux, they're always able to fall back on things, on their history, so that even when they fall prey to that teenage kind of inability to communicate, to meet the other person halfway and/or in the right way, there's a kind of security, a foundation to their relationship, so that they're always comfortable with each other, and can come to understand each other (better).
sobs, you first! I want all the Taemin/Kai/Krystal, 給我 :( I scrapped a part I started with her in it (“You look close,” Soojung had said to him, back on the set of W Live. She didn’t sound friendly or unfriendly, and she was looking down at Monggu, who was curling up on Jongin’s shoes. / He looked back at Taemin. “Yeah,” he said.) but I really really want Kai/Krystal interactions :( ...and prompt me :(
