So I recently went on vacation to the great state of Arizona. The funniest part of the trip was the night before when my family couldn't agree on where exactly Arizona is located in relation to the other 49 states! The kicker is that my parents have been there several times before. But in our defense, you know that every state west of the Mississippi is pretty much shaped like a box (except for California, Texas, and Idaho). We had it narrowed down to the southwest corner of the nation. Surely we get points for that! Hey, at least I knew the difference between a butte and a mesa. Okay, well maybe not before the trip, but I do now.
Overall, it was a good trip. The place we stayed at was a little rich for my blood, but there were lots of interesting cultural differences. The most interesting day was when we took a jeep ride through a national park. Apparently, the jeep company pays for and maintains the upkeep of the trails they use and then the park system gives them permission to use them. Since it is their "monsoon" season, everything was in bloom and very colorful. There is nothing quite like stopping a jeep on a forty-five degree angle to take a picture of a lizard.
The only disappointment of the trip was not being able to find a decent basket. I think we were in the wrong part of the state for basket weaving, so the only stuff we could find was the cheap touristy stuff (you know, instead of the expensive touristy stuff:). I did manage to find a nice ring and necklace, but again, most of the stuff was way too expensive.
Anywho, the reason I had for posting this was that before the trip I was loading my mp3 player with my crazy music collection and found a few golden oldies hidden at the bottom of the stacks. I haven't listened to Heather Nova or Sophie B. Hawkins in forever and even when I was listening to them, I never did quite get into their latest projects. Now I find myself enjoying them immensely. It's always fun to discover new/old music. OOOOhhhhh, and Connor of Bright Eyes is doing a solo album! Cassadaga was another album I was rediscovering and now this, it's like fate...or a really timely coincidence. Good times all around.
Must sign off now before the torrential rains and cloud to ground lightening bolts eat my computer alive!
