John Crichton Baby!!!
I want to start by saying that I am a huge fantasy geek, sometimes sci-fi, but definitely more towards the supernatural than the super science. That said, I still fell in love with "Farscape" when it first came out. It was like a spoof of Star Trek, "The Odyssey," and "A Yankee in King Arthur's Court" all rolled in to one. Add to this the amazing characters that were brought on board and storylines that utilized those characters fully. But the best part was the humor that the main character, John Crichton, found in describing his culture to aliens. Just to give you an idea of what the show was like, at one point, John's clone is dying, watched over by the love of his life, Aeryn Sun. Soap opera to the nth degree, right? But "Farscape" never lost the ability to make fun of itself. The guy is on his deathbed and he turns to Aeryn and says, "You made me a better person." Aeryn's response? "It wasn't hard." Implying that any change was an improvement. The clone dies laughing. I think my favorite episodes were those where we got to see in to John's psyche for one reason or another. John seems like a deceptively simple character. He has that down home, good ole boy air about him and people constantly underestimate him because of it. He uses humor alot to protect himself from reality and it was always interesting to see what happened when his sense of humor began to fail. Also of interest, that was usually around the time he was separated from the group. What can I say? John is a cool character in a cast of cool characters.
So the point to this character worship was that Ben Browder and Claudia Black, who play John Crichton and Aeryn Sun respectively, are going to be appearing on Stargate SG1, together. Alas, not as their characters from Farscape, but I'll take what I can get. Yeah!! I'm glad to see that both of them have found work again. I might actually have to watch SG1. The only problem is I have no idea what this show is about beyond the original premise in the movie.
Still, yeah!!!
