Okay, so I'm at home by myself. The folks are visiting with my sister. I'm nocturnal...
I fed the dogs this morning, turned the radio on for the bird to listen to, and went back upstairs to nap. I woke up around 7:45 to feed the dogs again and let them out.
On the way downstairs, I heard this strange rushing noise coming from somewhere. This is never a good sign.
There was water everywhere. Absolutely pouring out of two of the vents in the ceiling and one of the light fixtures. After I had a panic attack and stood like a knob in the middle of the room barefoot (yeah, I won't get sick after that) I shut off all the water, called my folks and a plumber (HMS Plumbing-I know the family that owns the company and I know several of the plumbers...) and proceeded to shop-vac the carpet as best as I could.
I got quite a lot of it up with the help of my mom's co-worker (who she called) and finally Will came to help me. He had to cut a hole in the ceiling and found that the pipe that led outside to the spigot had a shitty soldering job done on it and it had just popped open to spray ice-cold water all over the ceiling. We're going to need to replace the entire thing and rip up the carpet and replace ALL OF OUR FURNITURE. Fingers crossed, the surround sound still works.
Yeah, so the unfair part of this is that Dad has to drive back here to fix this problem and Mom has to fly back next weekend.
The whole situation sucked, but imagine what would have happened if I had gone with my folks to Louisville. Seriously. We would have come home to a basement entirely flooded, a ruined DVD collection, and I would probably have thrown myself into the icy water out of despair.
Will, while he was fitting the patch onto the pipe (with some of the coolest gadgets I have ever seen), was impressed that I wasn't a blubbering mess, and (to be honest) I was a bit surprised by this as well. Usually, faced with something this insane, I shut down.
I'm so exhausted right now that I can't even sleep.
I need out of this house tomorrow.
/real life,
worst day ever
