Let Me Show You Who I am
Chapter II
Breathe. Relax. Don’t let the people around you disturb the inner sanctum that is yours alone. Remember: this is your moment. Let that thought reverberate through the walls of your mind constantly. Do not lose your focus. Concentrate.
Now, it is your turn. You take a few tentative steps, and then you grow more confident. This is it.
This is the moment.
You are now standing straight. Your feet are placed firmly on the ground while your hands hold your bow aloft- just below your chest. You tighten the grip on your bow, and use your right hand to draw an arrow - a second and a third- altogether. You nock just one and hold the other two in a ready position. You then proceed to aligning your shaft and your line of sight. And then, you pull, slowly, slowly, slowly. You are now filled with energy. Adrenaline surges every part of your body. You forget that you are in an international competition. You become blind, to the people- and you can only see one thing- the Bull’s Eye. You become deaf- the roar of the crowd you can no longer hear. You are alone; and you savor this moment of true solitude.
And then- Twang!
You have released your arrow, and it glides effortlessly to meet its target. Just as the first hits home, the other two come whizzing out of nowhere, splitting the first, cleanly in half. The third arrow does the same to the second. You turn your head to look up at the stands. They are stunned. Triumph is now coursing through your veins; you look at your teammates and all of them give you the thumbs-up.
Suddenly exhausted, you kneel down just as the judges declare you the winner. But before you can even fall, your comrades catch you, and throw you up into the air while chanting your name. The master of Ceremonies then clears his throat, and silence falls. He looks at you, and you drink in his words. “Today… a champion… undoubtedly the best… the hope of the future…” And then you accept you trophy he hands you, raise it up for the whole world to see.
The whole arena roars their approval.
You are victorious.
