rainbow

Remarkable weather. It was bright and sunny when I got to the stable. By the time I put together Rocket's dinner (13 lb. alfalfa-grass hay and a warm mash made by cutting up an apple and two carrots in the bottom of his black rubber dish, putting an ample 2 cups of pelleted feed on it, and adding boiling water to cover) and started trundling it toward his pen, the clouds had rolled in. I put his food down where it goes and picked up the manure fork and started cleaning his pen, and there came a few sprinkles of rain. Finished the cleaning, got fresh water running, went back under his tin-roof shelter and began brushing him, and Wham! The rain came! And it pelted, and it bounced off all the tin roofs into a tight fog of splintered raindrops! And the wind came up and the rain blew sideways, and then it turned into hail! Stormy hail on a lot of tin roofs! Wowie, that was flashy. Rocket came over and huddled next to me, wanting reassurance. I picked up the brush again and started singing and brushing him, and he figured it was OK and went back to eating his dinner. Wonder how he makes it through storms when I'm not there? My brother marvels on that they let us boss them around - these muscular half-ton animals with sharp feet - when they could clean our clocks if they decided to. When it calmed down a bit there was a rainbow that came to an end about two pens away. Closest I'd ever seen one.
