Show ponderings...

Last night, I watched the last two episodes for the second time (Bring 'em Back Alive and Funeralia) - which I don't always do this season, so that says something - and I'm not sure I'm any closer to feeling anything conclusive about this big ol' S13 ( Read more... )

thinky thoughts, spn, s13, fandom has claimed my soul, slightly dean critical, spoilers

It's comforting to think there is a plan behind all the threads this season...I just don't really believe it anymore. OTOH Jared and Jensen are very excited about where the season is going to end...I'm holding on to that faint hope for all it's worth.

Where IS Lucifer? I'm a bad fan girl because I can't actually remember what happened after Jo/Anael walked out on him whenever that was. That was the last time I remember seeing him so if they gave me anything after that it obviously didn't make much impression on me.

They've done this with Sam and Dean before - had Sam somehow soften at the edges, like he's almost erasing himself, while Dean seems to amp up his more macho, loud side, almost as if he's compensating for Sam's lack of aggression with an overdose of his own. I don't know if it's deliberate writing or something that just 'happens'. But Sam lost a lot of his fire a long time ago and every time I think he's getting a little bit of it back, it's like they pour cold water on him and put it out. I miss angry Sam.

I agree 1000% with your thoughts about Sam. I too miss the self-assured, angry, assertive Sam of the early seasons, the Sam that stood up to Dean, questioned his decisions and didn't just follow along with them.

I'm currently watching random s1 & 2 eps, and 1 thing that stands out to me about current!Sam is how he will hesitate before talking to Dean, eps when it's just them, how much he umms and ahhs almost as if he's scared of voicing his ideas and opinions knowing that Dean will just shoot them down and expect Sam to just follows orders.

Love your theory about something missing in Sam after he was resouled. But I saw a difference from the beginning of S5 when Sam had to (almost) grovel and submit to earn Dean's trust and respect after letting Lucifer out.

But I completely understand why Sam would be conciliatory towards Dean in S5 ... THAT, to me, makes sense. From there on out, though? It just feels, I dunno, sad to me. like Sam has lost his passion. He feels beaten down. Hell, maybe they both do. Understandably.

I'm a fan of confident, smart Sam, and a more toned down, 'we talk it out together' Dean, so I'm not really liking their characterization at the moment. :/ I really hope there's a good reason for it.

Also getting really tired of Heaven. I wish all the angels would just go, and we'd go back to monster of the week stories. :/
