I said, "I'm a dull knife, but once I was a knife." I'm on a beach, I'm in the waves in the sand. I'm on a beach with a girl I knew. I'm on the beach alone. I'm on the beach with a stranger and I say, Once. I was a knife. She says, "What?". I say nothing (or I say "Nothing."). I don't know. She says, "What does that mean?" And I tell her about waves and wave refraction and the slow, but not so slow erosion of beaches, beach houses and the people that live in them sometimes. In another life, I live on a boat. In another life, I'm an octopus, or a man with an octopus tattoo living on a boat. I don't erode. I don't stand on beaches with strangers or lovers who ask "What?" I don't change the subject and I don't hit delete on all the things I tentacle type on my boat typewriter.
