It's not like she planned it this way.

But when they run into each other at a Starbucks in late July and, after filling in on all the need-to-know basis type things ("How's your summer been?" "Pretty good. Gotten a lot of sun. How about yours?"), an awkward silence commences, because the last time anyone checked, she was saying I love you while he was kissing Annie, and even though the stigmas warn off, it hasn't really warn off, so there's that contributing factor, and for Christ sake, what do you say to someone who recently broke your heart but didn't because it was never his to begin with.

As Britta ponders the ways in which things are complicated, Jeff says, in what she can only assume is an unsure tone, "we should, ah, hang out sometime", and it's sorta odd because if they were to spend anymore time together then necessary it would be too weird to have any fun, but then if they didn't it would still be weird because they're friends and friends hang out and she's already seen a movie with Troy and Abed and had lunch with Shirley (though Britta's pretty sure she only got that because Jeff apparently broke her heart), and, in the end, they leave Starbucks with a date for Saturday.

Only it's not a date, because dates are for people who like each other. Romantically.

He comes over with pizza and beer and quite a few movies, which is nice because it means they won't have to talk until the end of the night, by which time she will most certainly be drunk.

And, low and behold, it's only after they've watched four movies and consumed all the pizza (and, more importantly, the alcohol), that Jeff finally tries to apologies, only he's Jeff Winger and apologizing isn't really his thing, and even if it was this wouldn't be easy. So it's no surprise that, in what she can only assume is an effort to not seem like a total jackass, he kisses her.

She pulls away, but not to stop or yell or get all how dare you on him. Britta pulls away because of that question she's desperately needed to ask all night.

"Are you fucking Annie?"

And he looks at her with that genuine what the fuck are you talking about look of his and says "no" like it's the most obvious thing in the world, and even though there are several reasons not to believe him, she does, because Jeff's a good friend and she's his friend and really, what else does she have to loose?

And that's how they end up having sex. Again.
