Yuletide letter

I think this is the first time that my Yuletide letter is also 100% a pimp post for my tiny fandoms.

Dear Yuletide Writer,

First of all, clearly you are an excellent person with tremendous taste and I will end up enjoying whatever you write. Consider all of the optional details optional. That said, in general, I enjoy stories with a lot of adventures, shenanigans & misunderstandings, people awkwardly trying to express their feelings, and action/plotty hurt/comfort (where the comfort part is physical, like tending wounds and clinging until the adrenaline wears off), because competence. Om nom nom competence. I'm down with het, slash, threesomes, moresomes and gen. I'm not fond of death or rape fic (especially for these fandoms, though in the case of Ghost Bride, death kind of comes with the canon), character-bashing or strong BDSM (basically mild powerplay stuff is fine). Also, don't feel like you have to force a pairing into your story by making some characters kiss at the end. Let your non-freak flag fly!

Dostana (2008) -- Sameer/Kunal/Neha ( Netflix)

Clearly there needs to be all of the post-canon fic in the world for this movie. There’s a couple of different directions you could go with a story and all of them would make me happy. You could go for slash and find out what happened with Sameer and Kunal after that kiss or maybe a missing scene or two from the film. You could go a threesome direction and include Neha, because Neha’s the best! Or you could keep things platonic and have the guys learning how to be better friends and better people, with Neha’s help of course. This is a fandom ripe for shenanigans, so whatever what direction you take, have fun with it!

Who doesn’t love a Bollywood movie about two guys pretending to date in order to stay in a nice apartment with a beautiful girl? Actually, what I love best about this movie is that what turns out to be most important to all of the characters is the friendship between Sameer, Kunal, and Neha. A movie where friendship is more important than romantic love can be hard to find. Anything exploring the dynamics between the three main characters would make me happy.

Alloy of Law - Brandon Sanderson -- Wayne (Alloy of Law)/Waxillium “Wax” Ladrian/Marasi Colms (download)

How do I even start? There’s so much that I want for this fandom that I can’t even begin to form sentences. This novella only exists to make me want stories. Tell me about Wax and Wayne being partners pre-canon. Tell me about Marasi joining their mission post-canon, since something big is definitely hinted at in the epilogue, or maybe she becomes a successful lawyer/judge and kicks ass all over Elendel. Tell me about how they all bone, because obviously that’s going to happen. I’m just so charmed by how all three of them are charmed by each other and their competence. A threesome isn’t necessary to make me happy, but I would love all three characters included even in a non-romantic capacity, unless you decide to set your story pre-canon, in which case, woohoo, bring on the gunslinging!

Alloy of Law is worth reading even if you haven’t read any of the earlier Mistborn books. The novella is set 300 years in the future after the end of the trilogy, so a lot has changed and none of the older characters appear (except as religious figures) and the magic system is very interesting in the new setting. There’s a lot of genre Western influence on these characters, which means I want poker games that become shootouts and tracking outlaws through the brush and Wayne having inappropriate feelings. Because, wow, do I need a story about Wayne having inappropriate feelings. Any romantic combination of the characters would be fine with me and oh man, thinking about Wayne and Marasi teaming up while Wax is out of commission for reasons makes me kick my feet with glee.

The Ghost Bride - Yangsze Choo -- Li Lan/Er Lang (download)

I desperately need adventures, so many adventures. I’d love something set post-canon, with Li Lan telling Er Lang her decision or their adventures in his minor government official capacity. There must be another case that they both get tangled up in and work together to solve. Clearly, I adore their dynamic, with Li Lan not taking any of Er Lang’s nonsense and Er Lang really enjoying that. If you didn’t want to write post-canon, you could always tell me more about Er Lang and his dragon family or his government work.

I picked this book up on a whim through a B&N sale and found myself pleasantly surprised by how engaged I was by the characters and the world. Basic premise: Li Lan, daughter of a poor but once great family, is betrothed to a dead man from a powerful family who then begins to haunt her. She must journey to the spirit world and the Plains of the Dead to free herself. Malaysian culture and myth isn’t something you see explored in genre literature all that often and now I want more. Give me all of the supernatural adventures!

The Last Rune Series - Mark Anthony -- Travis/Beltan (.zip file)

The thing I love the most about this book series is how it is next level bonkers. Cult of gay knights? Sure. Wild west time travel? Okay. Fairies that somehow result in characters having a threesome baby? SIGN ME UP. Obviously Travis and Beltan's epic romance has a place close to my heart. If you decide to write them together, I care less about the porn than them figuring out their relationship in predictably awkward ways (but hey, who doesn't like porn?). If you don't want to write them together, you could focus on Travis trying to become less oblivious or him helping Grace become comfortable with feelings! Or write a story about Beltan learning how to navigate normal Earth things like ATMs and the DMV.

So look, I don't expect anyone to try to pick up this fandom who doesn't know it already because this series is 6 books long. But it is THESE SIX BOOKS. REMEMBER THOSE? If the phrases "threesome baby" and "cult of gay knights" sound like they are up your alley, you should download these books and enjoy them with me. If we did get matched on this fandom, man, go nuts. Include as many of the not-nommed characters as you want because I will be thrilled that we can even talk about how insane these books are and how much I love them.

Old Kingdom - Garth Nix -- Sabriel/Touchstone

I’m desperate for more stories that take place during the restoration of the Kingdom, between the first two books. I just want to read all about Sabriel and Touchstone being awesome and clearing out parts of Belisaere, training charter mage recruits, or rebuilding the Charter. Give me all of the adventures where these two have to be smart and strong and great. Any romance would be a cherry on the top of the sundae, but definitely isn't required to make me happy. Include the kids too, if you want.

What I’m crazy into here is the world of the books and the rebuilding of the Kingdom. If instead, you wanted to set the story after the end of the books so that you can include the whole royal family and Lirael as well, I would be seriously into that as well. I just want more of these small adventures that expand on the world of the books.

If you still need to mine for more ideas, you can check out my yuletide tag for previous years’ letters and recs.
