I'm playing DAXTER right now for PSP, it's sooo much fun yay! The graphics are ridiculously good- Daxter is furry like whoa. Since it's made by a studio other than Naughtydog the style of the characters is a bit different (more realistic, actually), and the animation isn't QUITE as great but considering how freaking wonderful the animation was for the Jak games this is not a big deal. It also solves the problem of game characters NEVER SLEEPING by turning Daxter's dreams into minigames. Awesomesauce. < / fangirl > On the other hand this makes me want to play Jak X even less. Man I hate racing games, and the racing was the weakest aspect of the previous Jak games imo. Anyway.

STYLE.

Was thinkin about it the other day. I noticed a lot of artists went through an anime phase and er, am I an exception? pshyeah... right. How embarassing :P I'm trying to remember my influences after I got over that, I guess it was typical comics, whichever ones caught my eye. I liked Michael Turner's comics if only because he drew women in a slightly less objectified way? No balloon boobs. But man his art does absolutely nothing for me anymore. THEN of course lol J. Scott Campbell, I still think his stuff is awesome but I think a bit.. crass. But I loved it because his art has a lot of attitude and energy.
I think I started caring more about drawing in a unique style when I found Byron Penaranda's art, since it's obviously a "style" that he developed (tho OH MY GOD why can't I find any of his stuff online, anyway he used to draw the comic Bohos), so I bit off him for a while.
Hmmm after that I'm not sure! I think it changed so often and there were so many artists that made me go OOOH I want to draw kinda like THAT. But also because in my head, I had a clear idea of what type of style I wanted to draw in, so I spent lots of time just trying to get that out.

I think it's interesting that comics have had more influence on my drawing than animation, even though I like cartoons more. I think possibly because you can take comics with you and study the drawings?

And now, well. I don't even think about it anymore. At some point, a couple of years ago I suppose, I just stopped caring about that. I just draw what comes naturally now... on the other hand I'm not always happy with this!! But I guess what happened is that I now care more about what I draw, instead of how I draw it. A lot of things which need work XP

I'm trying to think about my biggest influences right now, as in, artists who are inspiring, either as in inspiring to make me want to do better art, or to inspire me to bite off of them hahaha. There's BROM. There's... James Jean. LOL nivbed duuuh. Umm. Yi Lee. There's always been Matt, but mostly because for years I felt like he was drawing exactly what and how I wanted, only 500% better than I ever would be able to do. :PPP after that... well. There's about 105 artist folders organized in my art downloads. HAAA. OH ALSO I'll mention Kevin (azucarnegro) because I know it'll make him all embarassed :D I get most inspired by illustration-y art these days, if only because I want to take my stuff more in that direction, cos I think it could be something that I could be good at if I work at it more? I love concept design, but I think also because I like to make pictures that take 25+ hours I should work on making these pictures 110% awesome. Fo' sho.

OK ARTISTS! Your turn to tell me about YOU :D Do you have a special style that you have/want to have? Who do you rip off?are your influences? What direction do you want to take your art in?

Tell meeeeeeeeeeee
