Jonathan Crane stepped out of his study. "Duela? Is something wrong?"

"I'm going to be taking another trip to France," she told him with a smile.

"Oh?" He reached for her hand with a smile. "What's the occasion?"

She kissed his cheek and chuckled. "I'm going to take Dalia. Things have been... a bit rough for her lately, and she mentioned wanting to get out of Gotham for a bit."

"And you'll run off and neglect me?" he teased.

"Somehow I think you'll survive a couple of weeks without me."

"I'm hurt that you even suggest it," he replied, grinning. "Maybe I'll try the tank to see if I can cope with your loss that way."

She looked over at him, trying to hide a smirk. "If you try that thing and it doesn't kill you? I will for making me worry."

"It's perfectly safe, I think. I've made adjustments, you know." He paused, as if considering something. "After all, I don't want to go completely grey, or have you return here and compare me unfavorably with all the handsome young men of Europe. Worse, Connor might finally convince you to replace me."

"Well, now that is something to consider." She laughed. "He does try so hard. Too bad for him that I tend to be pretty stubborn."

"And this is why you were chosen instead of him - he'd have succeeded if he'd only thought to poison me instead of persuading you. He's too vain."

"Unless I'd found out. Then he might have found a bit of wire around his neck," she replied, chuckling.

"If he were sure of his skills, he wouldn't have to worry. Well, give him my regards, at any rate. That is, if you really must go."

"I'm looking forward to it, getting to spend some real time with Dalia..."

At that, Crane frowned. "Joshua might feel neglected. I wonder if we shouldn't present this as an opportunity for him to spend more time with his new friend."

"And use it to find out this... friend... is? I agree." She smiled but not fully. "You know she probably isn't good enough for him."
