Duela Crane knew her son was brilliant. He might even be more intelligent than his father. Jonathan would no doubt say he was. She marveled at the things he thought up, often got lost in conversations he had with his father. Still, she smiled when they spoke of plans and chemicals and... whatever else it was they talked about. Duela had poured herself into law after studying psychology diligently.
Still, for all his brilliance, Joshua was not a particularly social young man. He took after his father there too. He liked keeping to himself. He traveled often enough but only to see family, to assist them when they needed it. Jonathan, she knew, had been much the same way. That should have reassured her, but it didn't completely.
Duela sat in the kitchen of the Crane house, sipping a cup of tea. The kettle was still on the stove, waiting for the master of the house. He usually came up around this time for a cup of tea and a break from his work. He didn't always, but... Well, Duela prided herself on having managed to make a mid-day chat with him rather routine. She didn't bother him when he was working on something she couldn't help him with, but she liked to think he enjoyed a small break from his work to see her.
