I've decided, for a number of reasons, to not go ahead with this year of college. If it was anything but a repeat year, I'd stay with it, but it's not. Firstly, I'm working part-time now and I will be enormously tired from all the days I'll have to head into work straight after college, and I won't be able to put in the effort required this year. I know what's required of each student this year, and it's a lot. Particularly, Christmas, February and the end of the year get extremely stressful, because of the enormous amount of work that needs to be done. I also plain can't afford it... for the past two years I've been on VTOS, now I have the job I have to stay in Cobh, which means spending near to €100 a week just getting to college and back.
I spoke with the course coordinator who agreed with me that the workload will be too much, going on to say that she doesn't like it when students work during the course anyway because she knows they won't be able to give it their full attention and attend to the workload. She told me to save this year and come back next year if I can, but I'm not sure if I will... I failed the most important class last year not because my work was unsatisfactory, but because they couldn't play the dvd's with all my film, ENG and studio work in their drives, and they couldn't get a replacement because I was in Budapest at the time. So I'm not particularly looking forward to repeating a year I've really passed. I still intend to make short films this year, especially with the Karnival Kommandoes competition, and as for next year? Who knows. Friends who went onto third year have told me they'll want me for certain work during this year, too, so that's good.
GameCon was fun, though it was more than a tad annoying that we couldn't agree on what games to play, so there were long periods of boredom. Got to catch up with people like Drakai and Ken, though, which was great. Had fun overall, but we're definitely driving next year... I spent way too much money this time.
