So, I just swallowed a Junior Mint... And yesterday I bought two kazoos and a bamboo flute... and I had a sausage with saurkraut for lunch...

a wooden chinese flute that, oddly enough, is shaped like a dragon.

i love sausage!

to prabhjot: so i watched bride and prejudice tonight (great movie...go watch...) anywho, it's a total spinoff taking place in Punjab, india. i'm not sure exactly how accurate the depiction of customs and whatnot was, but it looked pretty sweet, nonetheless. and now i'm addicted to the music. have any suggestions of punjabi music?

i've heard mixed things about bride and prejudice. i'm not a big fan of musicals and from what i know that's what it mostly is, so i don't know how i feel about seeing it.

there's 2 main kinds of punjabi music: the traditional stuff and the remixed, hip-hop stuff. what are you into?

its not too musical - only like 2 or 3 songs that actually contribute to the story line. try it!

i've tried to download random remix stuff and it just doesn't work. but i don't even know what i'm downloading - i just go for the most popular songs when i type in "punjabi." can you give me a few names, both remixed and traditional? i must say, i'm quite a fan of the sitar...

i don't know any traditional artists. sorry. artists who remix (this genre is called 'bhangra'):

dj sanj
dr. zeus
dj outlaw
dj aps
manak-e
panjabi mc
bobby friction
tigerstyle

...to name a few.

here's a better idea: email me your address and i'll burn a couple of my good bhangra cd's and mail them out to you. that way you don't have to look for stuff that's good.

will do! thanks! so have you ever been to a punjabi wedding? they look hella fun - at least from the movie. i don't know how true it was but figuring that the director is indian, it had to be somewhat accurate.

oh hell yes i've been to punjabi weddings. if it looks kickass in the movie, then it's way better in real life. from the thrill of being served alcohol underage while your parents are there (rum & cokes were invented for a reason) to dancing your ass off to the goodass food to the numerous drunk uncles and random old dudes, punjabi weddings are the shit.

ok, i was going more for the dancing and music and everyone participating aspect...but if the drunken-ness is the part you like, i guess that's ok... ;)

it's just one small part of the punjabi wedding experience.
