Another rubber tree plant

Last night Liam and I sat snuggled up on a perpetually rainy Sunday. Minutes turned to hours bundled on the couch - the grayness of the rain only broken by the glow of the Christmas tree we bought last week.

As we watched Christmas specials, heavy lidded from a day of lounging, movement caught the corner of my eye. The tree toppled - ala America’s Funniest Home Videos. With a plop and a crash it smacked against the wooden floor sending pine needles and shreds of the thinnest silver glass from delicate bulbs.

We both paused for just a moment. Then we laughed. And laughed. And laughed. We giggled as we picked up the discarded shrapnel from broken candy canes and delicately painted ornaments and maneuvered around the tree stump to get it back in place.

After 10 minutes it stood again, although this time slightly less triumphant. It leaned boozily toward the back wall and bent branches stuck out akimbo. Lopsided lights and decorations stared back at us when we stood in its glow. We cheerfully planned a second decorating party. This would be a great opportunity! Two chances to decorate in one season! More Vince Guaraldi, more cocoa!

Arrangements made for a second party, we wiggled the tree one last time to test its security and sat back.

Then it crashed again. :)
