Characters: Lily, Snape
Words: 150

“A half-blood? The big, bad, scary Slytherin is a half-blood?”

The words he had dreaded hearing for six years sounded not as a death knell in his ears but as a peal of delighted laughter.

“Don’t worry, Sev - your secret’s safe with me,” came the irritatingly amused response, cutting off his instinctive snarl.

The next morning, though, he found his tattered old Potions book had been returned to him with a new inscription emblazoned on the title page: This Book is the Property of the Half-Blood Prince.

He paused before saying the spell that would obliterate those half-mocking words, and instead ran a finger lightly across the feminine handwriting. Catching himself, he scowled and yanked away his hand, slamming the book closed as he did so.

Severus Snape would not be intimidated by mere words. He would keep them there, as proof.

That would show that blasted (beautiful) Lily Evans.
