The
Transporter Bridge was open on the Bank Holiday, and the weather was glorious, so
jarkman talked me into the walk over the High Girders. A traditional, but rare, treat for Newport folk.

If you're not familiar with transporter bridges, they look like Steampunk Moominhouses, designed by a Belgian. Getting across involves either the dangling gondola carriage, or else walking over the top. That high bit. Very high bit.
Looking down from early on the stairs, you can see the gondola. it's harder to see it from up top.

This is climbing up. Still further to go.
Newport and
City Bridge.
The view is excellent from the top, although if they'd built it for the view they probably wouldn't have put it in Newport.
Docks
The Long Walk.
The little wheels are what carry the gondola across the bottom of the girders.
Now it looks like a long way down.
Newport's wind turbines beyond.
