dear journal,
i love dear frankie. and i will tell you why.
i don't know how i found it. i don't remember. what i do know, is while my netflix account was in service the first time around, dear frankie stayed at the top of my queue, unavailable, for months. after that, after its release to dvd, the waiting list was horrendous.
nearly six months ago when my netflix services ran out and the budget was too tight to add another monthly bill, i had to let go of dear frankie. my local blockbuster didn't have it, further cementing my belief that blockbuster sucks, and i wasn't hyped about spending 25 bucks on a movie that may or may not be good.
but! due to my recent raise and my lack of cable television ( STILL ), i reinstated my netflix account. and dear frankie was sent to me. and i watched it. five times before sending it back. and the only reason i sent it back was i bought it.
and here is why i love it, my own specific reasons, besides the fact that it's an excellent movie all around:
1. i watched it for the first time last saturday night. jay came home about 2 minutes before it finished, and as soon as the credits rolled i asked him to watch it with me. because i missed it already.
2. jay likes it too, and that means he can't complain when it's on. ha!
3. scottish accents.
4. the stranger dresses like jay.
he's not doing a dorky dance movie, he's running. although if he was doing a dorky dance move, he would look even more like jay. hmm....
5. it's witty, and funny, and heartbreaking, and adorable, and entertaining, and compassionate.
that could technically be six reasons.
6. frankie looks like a little vidal. and that makes it even more endearing.
7. cash watches it, too. it's no bill murray movie for him, but he sits for minutes at a time and cocks his head at the screen. because he has excellent taste. and if cash likes it, so should everyone.
