i'm not much of a cat person. at all. jay isn't much of a dog person. it didn't matter anyway, because dogs aren't allowed in our apartment complex. but a cat? did i really want a cat? ehh.
we decided to just get a hamster. a dwarf hamster, and name him gimli. i think the overrall point of a pet in the first place is to have something we could both love and raise together.
we were anticipating the grand opening of a petsmart right across the street from where i worked, so when i reminded jay that they opened on monday .. and since we would be out running errands anyway .. it wouldn't hurt to stop .. right? right.
if you didn't already know, petsmart doesn't sell puppies or kittens. they have their own adoption program, outsourced by local rescue agencies and the like. it had been my experience that petsmart didn't actually house these pets, but brought them in on special "adoption days". unknown to me at the time, this certain petsmart was testing a new sort of adoption program - the kind that kept adorable, heartwarming kittens in the store at all time.
like cash here.
cash was the first kitten i saw. he was cute - but most kittens are. then he put his nose against the glass and put his paw up against my finger. that was it, that was all it took. jay didn't need any persuasion.
cash sleeps in my lap. he purrs constantly, he follows me from room to room. he jumps on my lap when i type, he plays with my hair. he's attracted to the power cables on the xbox controllers. he bats at jay's d&d miniatures. he's fiercely loveable, and sweet, and perfect for this home.
