I read the first three or four books of the Wheel of Time series. They went downhill for me, and I used to joke that I was waiting for Robert Jordan to finish them all before I picked them back up, just in case he, like, died before finishing the story.
Ironically, that's exactly what happened. He succumbed to cardiac amyloidosis halfway through writing the twelfth and final book in the series. Apparently there are plans for finishing it based on his notes and personal communications. Even if they weren't all that good after around book three, it's sort of sad.
