Alison visited this weekend. We grilled burgers on Friday night. On Saturday we went for a long, wet hike with a couple med school friends, and then the four of us went out to dinner in Norwich. Sunday we cooked a huge tasty breakfast and saw the movie Fearless. It had some wicked fight scenes but the plot and script sucked, so overall it was only a mediocre experience. Worth a rent, but I wouldn't recommend theatre price for it
Then, we started our Sunday night plans, which included making pudding from scratch and preparing a baked potato, broccoli, and cheddar cheese soup. Basically, you bake a couple Russet potatoes and let them cool a bit. You chop them up and put them in a blender with three cups of milk. Blend until smooth. Then add frozen broccoli and blend again.
If you can't picture it at this point, imagine a blender full almost to the brim with a smooth potato/milk/broccoli mix.
It was at this point that I accidentally removed the blender pitcher from the detachable blade apparatus. Now there's a two inch diameter opening at the bottom of the pitcher and in a split second, all of the soup flowed out and over the blender base and onto the counter. It made a pool about two feet in diameter. I was so sad. Alison said I looked like I had watched somebody kick a puppy. Life's lesson - learn how your blender works.
We tried again, and the soup was great. Incidentally, after the blending you are supposed to pour the mix into a pot, heat to serving temperature, and stir in shredded cheese, salt, and pepper to taste.
