What I dislike about my neighborhood

I was feeling terrible yesterday. Going for a walk with a camera in hand almost always cheers me up. I usually photograph what I find interesting, and if I find it interesting, then I that usually (but not always) means that I think its beautiful, no matter how "ugly" it actually looks.

For once, I thought I would photograph what I dislike about my neighborhood. (Followed by a post on what I specifically like).- Mostly, its the low reguard people have for sidewalks, and the post-pedestrian city planning.

Not walking far from my door, I am confronted with dog shit. The sidewalks of Hollywood are covered in dog shit. I just can't immagine the audacity of dog owners who let their dogs shamelessly extrete on walkways without cleaning it up and then carry on as if its the most acceptable thing in the world.

As I walked down Franklin Ave, I made a right turn on Grace St., which then curves into Yucca. This photo was taken close to the intersection of Yucca and Wilcox. Look at all that dried up bubble gum on the sidewalk! I don't understand why people would spit their gum on the sidewalk when there is a trash can a few feet away. I really hated stepping on gum. I don't like the asymmetry when I walk. I am not saying I dislike sidewalks covered in gum, I dislike that people leave their gum on the floor where people and animals can step on it.

I don't like large streets. They are often designed to accomodate the individual driving the automobile. It just reminds me that too many people drive too many cars. Plus its an eye sore. Fortunately there aren't that many large streets in Hollywood. But there area few. This is the intersection of Vine and Yucca:

After making a right on Vine St., I then came across that mural of jazz musicians right next to the Capitol Records building. It makes me sad that somebody's hard work is now falling apart and nobody cares to restore it.

Also, the light on the left was on! Its daylight! Wasteful!

I have maxed out on my monthly quota with flickr. I just bought an upgrade to unlimited uploads. Unfortunately, it takes days for my echeck to clear.
