I hate that. It's like "Can you not see the fabulous story in my head?? Seriously, in my head it's PERFECT!!"
Americans are less butthurt over people not knowing every single thing about them (way to go Americans \o/)
It's because we're such a big country with such a huge range of things about us. We don't even know all about us, so we certainly don't expect other people to ;)

I think that has a lot to do with it. Not that I necessarily think wanting your culture to be portrayed accurately is *wrong*, but there is a proportionate level of caring that some people just steamroll over and run straight into starting a flamewar, and that's kind of... a little extreme when we're talking about lift vs. elevator, y'know?
