I has a socially responsible investment plan.

Ladies and gentlemen and others, I present to you the Queerasmoi Socially Responsible Couch Potato Portfolio. It's a lovely blend between low fees, social responsibility, and lazy passive investing.

Here's the details of my target portfolio.

Part A: Canadian equities - iShares CDN Jantzi Social Index Fund (TSX:XEN), Management-expense ratio (MER) of 0.50%.
Part B: US equities - iShares KLD Select Social Index Fund (NYSE:KLD), MER of 0.50%.
Part C: Foreign equities - For up to the next 12 months, iShares MSCI EAFE Index Fund (NYSE:EFA), MER of 0.34%. This is not a social/ethical index. However, Pax Global has recently signed a deal to develop exchange-traded funds based on the KLD Global Sustainability Index; within the first year of this fund's trading, I will switch part C to a global exchange-traded fund tracking this index or another similar to it.
Part D: Bonds - iShares CDN Short Bond Index Fund (TSX:XSB), MER of 0.25%. These bonds are mostly government, with about 30% coming from corporate bonds; of those, most are in the financial sector. While a small number of the bonds on this index - representing a tiny percent of my final holdings - give me the shivers, I think it's a reasonable investment.

My allocations will be 20% A, 20% B, 20% C and 40% D. Once or twice a year I will buy/sell just enough to reset these allocations. And the rest of the time I will sit back and let "the plan" do its thing. And in the long term, my money will have a much lower weight than most investors' in such things as death machines, world-scorchers and inequitable asshats (because really, do you want your assets invested in asshats?)
