It's my party, I can pride if I want to!

I slept in yesterday, but then got my ass in gear to prep for my party.  I had soaked some soybeans overnight, and I started them boiling shortly out of bed.  I made a last-minute run out to get an onion, peppers and coconut milk for my sweet and sour soybean stirfry, made my trademark coleslaw dressing, burned out Joe's blender making a double portion of hummus, and rented Notorious C.H.O. for the evening's comedic entertainment.

My first guests were Max, Brad and David, who arrived before I even got a chance to take out the trash.  As I went downstairs to dispose of it, I discovered a discarded CRT television considerably larger than my own that appeared to be in perfect working order.  I gleefully ran up, grabbed Max and David, and brought them back down to take the set upstairs.  It turns out the TV's cable tuner is a bit flaky, but it has RCA inputs and my VCR's tuner works great.  Presto, bigger TV!  What a lovely unexpected birthday present from... pronoia?

Joe returned from his errands, and next arrived Marc and kaisarn; we had plenty of food and began to dig in.  I should know better than to leave my computer unlocked during a party, but at some point Marc ran up to it and started playing a YouTube video of his stripper friend.  He then decided it would be fun to put me on the phone with him (although it was actually Max who really seized the moment, deciding to scoop him for a campus radio interview).  I was blushing considerably though.

Both Max and Marc brought me feather boas, so I wound up wearing the two of them twined together on the couch, with the facial expression matching the words "You're filthy and I'm gorgeous."  It looked fabulous... but dammit, those boas were itchy.  And they shed.  See, I'll never be a good drag queen.

Our buffet included my soybean dish with coconut rice, a chicken curry Marc picked up from takeout, Brad and David's lovingly assembled taco salad, Joe's yummy spicy chili, not one but two lovely olive breads with pâté and red pepper spread, and hummus with multigrain pita. Matt brought dragonfruit and chocolate for dessert, and Jud showed up in mid-eat bearing chocolate cheesecake (thank you Lactaid!). Everyone got along really well, and just as we were starting to play YouTube stuff on the big TV, Ryan arrived and showed off some of his electronic music.  Just as Adam came in (woohoo, first non-gay boy at the party who doesn't already live here!) we started watching the DVD and it was still oh-so-wonderful even 5.5 years after Margaret Cho released it.  (Eileen?)

We headed out on Davie for a short time at 1181 - by the time we got in it was just down to myself, Marc and Jud.  Fortunately for all, a second birthday boy who had also invited Jud had also brought his party there, and I got to say hi to a someone who couldn't attend because of the other party.  All in all it was an exhausting and rewarding day.  I'm really glad I got all these people to come celebrate, and I hope this will be only the first of many great summer parties :)
