This past week has been an eventful one. I have been not reading as much, but writing more. There is always a trade-off when this happens. I have brought out Victoria’s Challenge out again and have found that the story is still flowing out of me. I have been discussing my ideas for the plot with Sean and have found it interesting to discuss a world that I have built in my mind and on paper both. This floors me that the ideas are actually there.
I am one that never has seen writing as an all consuming desire, as something I must do. Ideas aren’t always flitting through my mind like others I know. I have found that if someone says you should write a certain type of book, I will mull over the idea and come up with an idea. Maybe I am still trying to come up with my favorite genre maybe not. Most times I sit at my computer and have no idea of where my story will take me and am surprised some at what pours out of me. I tend to let my characters tell me what they want to do and who they want to be with. I never knew that Cassidy wanted a love of her own, and realized that she had picked one of the minor characters was hers. That character, which was going to exit the story early on, ended becoming a pivotal character who introduced many surprises to my story.
Now I am not saying that my story is great, and I realize that my story needs some work to introduce some aspects to the first part of the script that I didn’t know were going to develop until later in writing. I maybe someday will try a complete outline and see how that works, but my creative process at this point seems to have the ideas flow from me while writing.
I have also decided instead of a giant battle, that my evil one is going to taunt, threaten, and use trial by combat to try to get around the guilty verdict. He will die, but the ramifications of his threats will shake the characters to the bone and will lead to the next book.
In my world WWI and WWII aren’t going to happen, but when Victoria dies (at the end of the trilogy) I figure later stories, about the world will show a shift in power and this will cause conflict. Since this takes place in 1930s, and Hitler is on the rise in Germany. I have been wondering how I will make it possible for him to do this, because WWI hasn’t happened. This should prove to be interesting.
I will be writing more tonight, after going to the gym and visiting my friend in the hospital, so we will see what this world will throw at me!
